It was a cool winters day in Florida, and a little girl who was spending her first Christmas with her adoptive family in the United States was playing outside, like little girls do. It was an unusually windy day and it was also trash day. The wind had blown trash down the little girls street. Specifically, a larger plastic Christmas ornament rolled down the street in the wind. The little girl ran and grabbed it.
Later when the day ended, she asked her Papa if she could keep it. It was plastic so it had not broken and it was missing it's cap. The paint was chipped but otherwise the ornament was in good condition. The little girl took it inside and put the plastic ornament on her bed.
The next morning, the little girl sat at breakfast and told her Papa about how she had gone on several adventures with fairies who had jumped out of the ornament before she fell asleep. Her parents laughed and thought it was cute but paid little attention to her stories. Then she continued to tell the story over the next two mornings.
Interested in her imaginative impressions of these adventures her Papa looked into the chipped Christmas ornament and when the outside light shown through chips of paint, the light danced inside the ornament..and looked like little fairies.
Her Papa encouraged her to jot down what she remembered about the fairies and the journeys they took each night. It was here that the Passage Fairies were born.
This short story penned by author K. Starshinova at the age of 5 would become the original Passage Fairies story. Starshinova's father, author D.A. Turlington self published the work in 2005 and read it to kindergarten classes at K's elementary school. The reaction was so positive that the two spent the next ten years writing out a series of novels that were based in part around the original stories and characters.
The Conflict of Druyonica is the first Novel. Touching on concepts of Russian Fairy Tales the first novel presents the origin story of three fairies from the original short story.
In this first novella, The Baba Yaga is an evil force that uses dark magic to destroy realms and is intent on attacking the realms of the Passage Oblast system. The Passage Fairies are magical creatures that move among the realms, helping where they can and teaching lessons that have been passed on for centuries in the fairy realms.
This time the Baba Yaga is intent on destroying Druyonica; a peaceful realm that believes it cannot defend itself. During an attack by the Baba Yaga, a magical barrier made of sticky jelly appears to protect Druyonica. The Passage Fairies arrive and begin the learn the origin of this special substance, which they have never seen before. There is much more to what is going on in Druyonica than just the battle between light and dark.
Also as a bonus in this First Edition of The Passage Fairies: Conflict In Druyonica is the original Passage Fairies Book that inspired the series titled The Passage Fairies. Originally penned when author K. Starshinova was six years old and self published as a childrens book, the original story follows Star, a little girl from Russia who finds an old Christmas ornament that is used my magical fairies to take her on journeys at night when she goes to sleep.
While the original book that inspired the series is currently out of print, we love it when we occasionally see copies come up for sale on Amazon. Below is the link that will lead you to any such used copies:
